Transfo Duiktank pursues an open policy: the dive tank serves many purposes, for both sport and professional divers. With its depth and large volume of clear water it is a unique location for training, courses and introductory dives. Experience elements and a modular course add extra challenge.

The tank is 15 m deep with a diameter of 20 m. Up to 25–30 divers can dive simultaneously, but during public hours a limit of 20 divers per time slot applies.

The water temperature varies from 16 °C in winter to about 26 °C in summer. You dive with your own equipment, which must be clean. Changing rooms and lockers are available; given the limited space, please bring only what you need.

The story

From fuel-oil tank to dive tank

Hidden in a buffer basin on the Transfo site in Zwevegem stand three old fuel-oil tanks. In the largest — 17 metres tall, 28 metres wide — you now dive in crystal-clear water.

When an international group of young architects brainstormed the site's future, wild ideas flew around: an arena theatre, a climbing hall… and a dive tank, inspired by the Gasometer in Duisburg. That last idea stuck with everyone.

Dive federation NELOS did the maths and confirmed what every diver here feels: in Belgian and Dutch open water visibility is always limited — in the tank, never. Deep training with perfect visibility: the ideal stepping stone between the pool and the sea.

The cleverest part is the construction: the dive tank sits deliberately off-centre inside the old oil tank. The ring around it holds everything — reception, cafeteria, changing rooms and the entry zone — and daylight falls through the air-cushion roof all the way to the bottom. Even non-divers gaze straight into the water from the cafeteria.
